If you are feeling like the world has got you down and your heart is broken, the good news is that Jesus heals the broken hearted. Jesus can and will heal your broken heart. In fact, we call the broken-hearted blessed. Why you may ask? Those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit are willing to do anything and everything that God asks of them. – B.Porter Psalm 34:18 (KJV) “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

Why did Jesus come to earth

Jesus Christ came to earth as part of the plan of salvation. In order for salvation to happen Jesus Christ must atone meaning-making amends for our sins. The Bible says “He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging, we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way, But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.” – Isaiah 53:5-6

25 ways Jesus heals the brokenhearted

#1 He revives our spirits and our hearts when they are low.

For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite. – Isiah 57:15 #2 Even when we feel alone, Jesus will always be by our side. Hebrews 13:5 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

#3 He builds hope and a new future for us.

Jeremiah 23:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

#4 Jesus Christ provides an everlasting peace for his children.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. – 1 Peter 5:7 I personally have experienced this everlasting peace. Prior to becoming Christian, I used to meditate every day and do yoga to try and ease my worries. Nothing ever worked until I found Jesus.

#5 Jesus will carry out burdens allowing us to rest.

This means that he always has a plan for us and that we should not worry. Trust him to keep walking his path and he will bear our burdens and create new opportunities for us in the future. Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

#6 Christ draws closer to us in times of need.

Psalm 34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

#8 Jesus is the keeper of your heart and mind.

Philippeans 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

#9 Christ will give you a renewed mind.

The renewed mind allows us to see more clearly. This clarity allows us to make better decisions to follow the path of God. Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

#10 He gives us greater strength.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart forever.”

Through removing fear and replacing it with power Jesus Christ he crowns us with empowerment. 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love and of a sound mind.”

#12 He has prepared a way for us.

We must remember that Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father have prepared a way for us. Sometimes it may be hard to choose the right especially when we are suffering but it is in times like this that our faith becomes restored. We must choose to faithfully walk Gods way.

2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

#13 He sustains us.

By taking our burdens and renewing our spirit and minds the Lord sustains us in our lives. Psalm 55:22 “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you.”

#14 Jesus wipes away our tears.

He has a plan for us where are spirits are restored and we are free of emotional pain. Revelation 21:4 “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

#15 He is a healer.

Psalm 30:2 O LORD my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me.

#16 He gave us the power of prayer.

The gift of prayer allows us to offer up our burdens and ask for relief. The Lord restores those who have faith. James 5:15 and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.

#17 He is greater than our hearts.

We all go through heartache at least once in this life, God is greater than our hearts so we can rest in him. 1 John 3:20 For whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.

#18 He leads us.

When we are in times of confusion or trial the Lord will show us the way through our hearts.

#19 He will direct the right way.

For those whom trust in him he will offer them direction. This personally happened to me when I was looking for a life partner. The Lord directed me to a different path and I was married six weeks later! Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

#20 He is a lamp for our feet.

When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, The Lord will be a light to me. — Micah 7:8 Jesus is the light to you in darkness, when you are going through hard times follow his light and continue to walk with him.

#21 He brings clarity and peace.

For God is not the author of confusion but of peace. — 1 Corinthians 14:33

How our hearts are mended and we are saved

We are saved through his atonement but that is not automatically transferred to you or I. In order to receive the atonement you must commit to converting to a Christ-like life. We can see here once again the reference to the broken-hearted being blessed, as they will do the work to find the relief and consequently they find God and real inner peace. Living a Christ-like life entails following his teachings, reading scriptures, praying and most importantly entering the waters of baptism and receiving the Holy Ghost. Following his teachings is another way to live a Christ-like life. This can be achieved by seeing the unrighteous desires in our hearts and behaviors we execute and commit to making a change. Other ways could be committing to obedience, repentance and service. Jesus promises us that we will not be the same after inviting him into your life for he says “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” – Ezekiel 36:26

What is Baptism

Baptism is the first official ordinance that is taken when we begin moving towards a christ-like life. The act of baptism is the complete physical submersion of the body by water. A worthy priesthood holder must perform the baptism on the persons taking the vow, in the name of Jesus Christ. Why get Baptized?

When you are baptized you are promising to take upon you the name of Jesus Christ. The Lord commands us to be baptized, for even he himself was baptized. John the Baptist “did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins” Mark 1:4. Baptism removes us from sin and makes us clean again. This allows us to dwell in the presence of the Lord. Jesus also taught us that we need to be reborn again through baptism. “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” John 3:5

Preparing for Baptism

To begin preparing for baptism we need to begin working on our spiritual hygiene. This is done by cleansing our spirit making new righteous choices and cease any spiritually unclean activities. We begin to start working on keeping the commandments in preparation for our new life with the savior.

What is the Holy Ghost

The holy ghost is a member of the Godhead. This is explained in 1 John 5:7 “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” We are blessed with the Holy Ghost after our Baptismal covenant. This means that we have the privilege to have the gift of continual guidance and inspiration from the holy ghost. This does not mean that we get the Holy Ghost and then we can act however we want. We must maintain our spiritual cleanliness in order to keep the Holy Ghost with us. 1 Corinthians 3:16 -17 “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the spirit of God dwelleth in you. If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy, for the temple of God is hold, which temple ye are.” Once you have experienced the presence of the Holy Ghost you will want him to reside within you always. The holy ghost is a guide, comforter, revealer of truth, sanctifier and brings a feeling of deep everlasting peace.

Receiving the Holy Ghost

Receiving the Holy Ghost comes shortly after your baptism. It is given through the laying on of hands and prayer. You may be wondering how to keep the holy ghost with you. We all sin and life sometimes can get the best of us. We are not perfect and never will be! Well not on this lifetime on earth anyway. The weekly gift of sacrament allows you to renew your baptismal covenant and allows you to be spiritually washed clean. The sacrament is partaking in the blood and flesh of Christ generally represented by water or grape juice and bread. It wasn’t until I returned to the church that I was able to have healing in my heart. God’s plan is greater than ours. He uses other people’s hands to touch and heal us in life. For my greatest healer was my husband and the family we built together. He has been my rock and I know I would not have found him if it was not for my conversion back to Christ. I know this article entails a lot but just try one step at a time. Start with a prayer and ask Heavenly Father to come into your life. Ask him to direct you to his plan and then have the courage to walk it. Change isn’t easy but walking Christ’s path was the best change I have had in my life.
