Unattractive smile is a feature that can adversely affect the self-image of an individual. An unattractive smile can be present because of a number of factors that include dark teeth, missing or broken teeth, receding gums, and protruding teeth or jaw. This could be a result of genetics, certain lifestyle habits that cause teeth discoloration, poor oral health or trauma.

What causes unattractive smile?

A beautiful smile involves a number of factors that include the teeth, lips, gums and an individual’s facial profile. In some individuals, the unattractive smile is caused by excess display of gums as a result of muscular problems, protruding jaw, large or sharp nose, etc. In other cases, the cause can be missing teeth, stains on teeth, broken teeth, discolored or stained teeth, misaligned jaw or teeth, abnormal eruption of teeth, protrusion of front incisors, and more.

Signs of unattractive smile

The signs of unattractive smile vary from one person to another. Generally, it may include:

Improper alignment of the upper and lower arches

Missing, chipped or cracked teeth

Receding gums and gaps between teeth

Brown, yellow or discolored teeth

Diagnosis of unattractive smile can be done through clinical examination of teeth and mouth. Assessment of the patient’s medical history is also important, including underlying health conditions, food and lifestyle, medicines he/she is currently taking and so on.

Dental X-rays can give even more information on the teeth and bones.

Possible complications

Complications that may be caused by unattractive smile include:

Low self-esteem

Physical unattractiveness and cosmetic issues that cause emotional stress

Functional problems, which can develop as a consequence of bite problems, such as tilted, crooked or misaligned teeth and when there is an abnormal relation between the jaws (openbite, deepbite, crossbite)

How to improve an unattractive smile

Treatment for unattractive smile depends on the etiology of the problem. Generally, the treatment may include:

Professional teeth cleaning

Using dental veneers or crowns to cover the broken or dark tooth

Undertaking treatment for gum disease and tooth decay

Restorations to replace missing teeth

Surgical procedures such as jaw surgery to correct defects

Cosmetic surgery may also be recommended to correct nose or lip issues

Orthodontic treatment for the abnormal or misaligned teeth to improve appearance and correct ‘bites’ From all treatment options to improve your smile, orthodontics is the less invasive and more conservative, offering wonderful benefits for maintenance of oral and general health.

Do girls like abs on guys?

Nice Set of Abs In a (not-so-surprising) study conducted by Western Illinois University, women rated abs as the sexiest muscle on a man's body, ThePostGame.com reports.

Let’s cut right to the chase: It doesn’t matter if you look like a Greek god if you’re an asshole. While douchey men might be a woman’s go-to for a one-night stand, they’re not what women want in a lifelong partner (hey, researchers proved it), so this is in no way encouraging you to stop working on developing that sparkling personality and to just be a decent human being. Now that that’s out of the way, there are some aspects of a man’s physique that catch a woman’s attention. After all, it doesn’t hurt to have an Adonis-like physique to go along with good listening skills, an inquisitive nature, and attention to detail. Think of yourself as a dinner plate—you might taste good (i.e. be polite and have a good personality) but if you look like crap very few diners are going to want to stick their fork into you. You eat with your eyes first. Here’s a roundup—in no particular order—of the features women love on a guy; and not even just the body parts, but what specifically about men appeal to women. Some of these are obvious, while others might catch you off guard. Either way, all of these have been proven by science to be irresistible to women so get your notebook out now. You can sculpt some in the gym, but others have already been fated by genetics (sorry). Either way, this will give you some insight on what females prefer. Hint: You’ll quickly find that women are not much different than men.
