Read More »What this verse is telling us is that if we trust God to provide for us then our lives will be lived in a certain way. If we’re not trusting God to provide for us then we’ll be doing it on our own and our lives will likewise correspond to that. Now, please, don’t think God’s telling you or me to sit on our duffs like a lazy bum. The Bible tells us that if we don’t work, we shouldn’t eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10). That’s pretty clear and simple. So no excuses here… But what are you setting your mind on? Carnal things like buying the bigger and better toy or home? If you couldn’t store anymore clothes in your closet or you couldn’t think of a spot to put the newest gadget in your collection, well, odds are good you have an issue with this verse today… This is also not a call for voluntary poverty, either. But it is a call to consider what we value as important and to realize that if what we value is carnal things and we don’t concern ourselves with the eternal things that matter, it’s because Jesus hasn’t come to make His home in our hearts. Again, Paul tells us here to examine ourselves and be honest before God!
