Deuteronomy 28 is the final summary of what is presented as the second of three addresses by Moses to the Hebrew people. Its first 14 verses describe how wonderful life will be if they remain firm in their obedience to "the voice of the Lord your God" (v.1); the final 53 verses vividly describe how painful life will be if they do not. That 'voice' is described as speaking through 'commandments and statutes.' Metaphysically, the message is that if we want to enjoy the fruits of this mortal experience, we must always give priority to the spiritual dimension that underlies everything. God is Love! Therefore, we are advised to make all our choices in an energy of love. If instead we give way to fear, the results of those fearful choices will be a life of lack, limitation, and anxiety. So, as with everything, the answer to your question depends entirely on the consciousness with which you enter this financial commitment. "You shall not borrow," within the context of this chapter, means that there will be no need to rely on others if we are properly aligned to our spiritual purpose. "The voice of the Lord" can express through financial institutions as well as through priests and oracles, just as 'healing' can be expressed through modern medicine as well as through prayer. Your mortgage will be a sacred commitment, entered into for the very loving purpose of establishing a home for your family.
