Read More »The graphics below categorize the flags of the world in fascinating ways — by color, age and design. Created by Ferdio, a design agency that makes infographics, they will show you everything you wanted to know about flags, and maybe more. You can click on the graphics to enlarge them. Wp Get the full experience. Choose your plan ArrowRight 1. Most of the world's flags aren't that old. The timeline below shows the date each nation adopted its current national flag. The vast majority were adopted in the past 200 years. 2. No country has a purple flag. Some countries have flags that are bluish-purplish, but none are purple outright, Ferdio said. As the graphic below shows, primary colors predominate. 3. Red, white and blue is the most popular color combo. Most countries go for three or four colors. Some flags have two colors, but far fewer have five or six. 5. Flags have families, too. The flags of Nordic countries all boast a Scandinavian cross, while Pan-Arab and Pan-African flags sport similar colors. 6. A star is the most commonly used symbol. More than two-thirds of flags have symbols, mostly stars, shields, crosses, suns and moons. 7. Most flag designs stick to the simple. They found that many flags are relatively simple, but some have thousands of vector points.
