It's a psychological tactic to get you to rescue them from their “bad” exes. Notice how the individual never usually owns up to their mistakes and the drama they created to make their exes act “crazy.” To the very least, degrading the people they once cared about and labeling them as crazy conveys disrespect.

Using this unhealthy coping strategy is a sign that they struggle with emotional regulation and self-control. Another thing.
