What is boring? For some people, a weekend hanging up curtains or settling into a murder mystery series on a Friday night is the highlight of their week. Though tbh, whoever these people are we would like to avoid them.

It's no secret that as we get older, the excitement winds down somewhat. Less skinny dipping at 4am in Greece, less making new friends on a night out. But what is the exact age we shift from fun guy to dullard, would you like to know?

Well, new research by Airbnb has found the age at which we reach 'peak boring' is 39 for men and 35 for women, with 37 on average being when we become really, really bloody boring.

And apparently, settling down is one of the prime reasons for this sad and inevitable transition: 15% of 30-39 year-olds admitted to becoming more boring since meeting someone. A further 20% said their that their sense of adventure has plummeted thanks to having children. Only down from here, eh?

Airbnb measured people sense of adventure based on spontaneous activities and found those in their thirties were least likely do do these 10 activities: Staying out until the early hours on a weekday Trying a new hobby Going out of the way to make a new friend Booking a spontaneous holiday Learning a new skill Visiting a friend unannounced Changing jobs Going on a spontaneous shopping trip Asking someone out Trying a new sport It's not all depressing though. The same research found that those over 50 were 22% more likely to book a spontaneous holiday than people in their thirties and 11% more likely to pay for an expensive meal out. So there you have it, you can avoid being boring, but only if you've got loads of cash.

It can be a verb or an adjective! So when you’re reading a dull or boring word description, for instance, it can dull or deaden your appetite for reading more word descriptions. That’s pretty fascinating, no? You can even use it for physical things, like a knife, which you can dull, that is, make it less sharp.
