Do you have a lot of cool and interesting friends?

Would you like to be able to describe your friends in English and to tell people about your friendship in English?

Probably you feel that your English vocabulary is too limited to describe your amazing friends!

In today's lesson I will help you with this!

Today get three ways to describe your friends in English plus a few different ways to say each phrase. Use these phrases the next time you go to a party and you will start to make them yours!

#1) "We have a strong bond."

A "bond" is a connection. If you have a strong bond with someone it means that you are tightly connected with them. Perhaps you have known each other for a long time and that means that you feel close to each other. Maybe you have faced a tough situation together and that has created a bond.

Other ways to say this:

"We are really close."

"We are pretty tight."

"We have a strong friendship."

#2) "We go way back."

To "go way back" means that you have a lot of history together. Perhaps you have been friends for a long time and you know each other very well.

Other ways to say this:

"We have known each other forever."

"We've been friends for a long time."

#3) "He points out my blind spots."

A "blind spot" is a weakness or a vulnerability that you have but you can see it. This is what your good friends can help you with. They can see where you are making a mistake or overlooking something and they can tell you.

Other ways to say this:

"He lets me know when I am not seeing something clearly."

"He helps me see the truth when it's not obvious to me."

These phrases are one small part of a new English conversation practice module from our Speakative program. Would you like to try using these phrases with a native conversation partner? Click the button below.

Is 5 5 short for a guy in Japan?

Your stature is around the average (5 feet 8 inches) of typical Japanese people whose age are thirties. People here in Japan in their forties and fifties are 5 feet 7 inches. Japanese people in their sixties and seventies are less than that: 5 feet 5 inches.

I am 5'8" and never felt short because I was born in Europe where it was an average size (many were taller but just as many where shorter). I have been living in North America for ages, go to the USA often, and even there not everyone is a giant! May be you should get some short friends rather than hanging out with tall ones (joke) If you are a guy you likely are just as big in one special place as your taller friends anyway. One of my neighbour is really tall and he told me he wishes at times he was 1 foot shorter! besides being stared at all the time he has to be extra careful not to bang his head on so many things.. He usually is aware of doorways etc. but many times he will be walking while talking to someone and will hit the corner of an awning or a sign.... He hates walking on rainy days as all the umbrellas hit him unless he walk with his legs bent, which is uncomfortable and looks weird..

Then he has problems finding clothes, shoes etc.
