To love a woman at all, is a beautiful thing. Then, to love a woman with a broken heart, a broken soul, or a broken smile is an art and a beauty of its own. It’s in the way that she loves you back, needs you and the way she tells you, or doesn’t, that is so intriguing. You can’t help wanting to love her more.

But, at the same time, it is not easy. To love a woman who is broken is to walk on broken glass pieces all the time. It could hurt you more; but you have to understand that it is hurting her, too. No, she won’t blame you for giving up on her altogether; she’s used to it by now. So, she’ll just let you walk away. But what if you don’t want to stop loving her and just don’t know how to go on loving her? Is there a way out?

Truth is, when it comes to love, there always is.

1. Use Your Words

The broken-hearted girl may or may not be a talker. If she talks, she will never let you know she was ever hurt. But, every so often, you will see a glimpse of the scars she isn’t showing. She will do the best job at covering up any signs of her scars and try as hard as you may, getting under her skin, getting to know what’s inside the scars, could take a lifetime, if not more. And sometimes, actions are not enough. Sometimes, all you can give are your words. She needs to be told you won’t hurt her. She may not believe you in that instant; blame it on past traumas. But tell her, anyway. She needs to be told that you won’t run and hide when you’re getting in over your head. She may not believe you in that instant. But tell her, anyway. Sometimes, all you will have are words and no actions. Use them anyway.

2. But It’s Also More Than Words

It’s about the gestures. When the words are all used and the silences take over between you and her, let the silence linger. Look into her eyes so deep so you see her soul, or a glimpse of it. Really look at her; let her see that you won’t turn away when things get rough. Hold her hand in the silences and let her feel that you won’t let go when it’s dark and she can’t see. Don’t take her withdrawal as refusal. She just wants to see if you’re willing to scratch through the surface. She just wants to know that you aren’t just another hoax.

Because she needs it. Maybe she has lost hope along the way. You need to help her find it again. It may take a while; it might even take forever. But once she finds it, she will see the hope in you, in her, and in both of you together. Let her see there is hope, even if it’s just through your eyes, words and actions. You need to constantly show her that all is not lost and what’s left is up to her to find. You need to be the reason why she wants to hope again.

4. Don’t Let Go

To love a broken woman is to pull on a jagged rope that is tied to a heavyweight hanging off a cliff. As much as you try to save her from falling, you’re clinging on despite the fact that you’re bleeding. It’s not easy. But you’re holding on anyway. Because you’re hoping she’ll stop pulling away from you and let the force work by itself. You need to wait—it will take time; it will feel endless. But, you have to wait. And never let go. Because you may fall back with the force, but she’s only falling down, all over again.

5. Be Patient

For the longest time, you could feel like nothing more than a shadow in the dark around her. For the longest time, you may feel like you go unnoticed in her life. She will try to block you out, ignore your presence in her life and even sideline you. But you need to understand that it is out of fear of acknowledging you and admitting to her feelings and then, having to lose you again. She is just trying so hard not to hurt that it’s hurting you.

6. Kiss Her

When you kiss a brokenhearted woman, you are healing her scars. It has to be gentle and cautious, yet, urgent and aggressive. To her broken soul, it’s not just a kiss; it’s a peak into her soul, her heart and all her hidden desires. She wants you to want her; but she is scared to want you back. She has lost in the past. Wishes have remained wishes in the past and sometimes, they even became mistakes. A kiss has ruined her in the past. A kiss can mend her brokenness. You need to be slow, earnest, passionate and absolute with her in the moment that you kiss her.

Hold on to her when you hug her so that she knows you are exactly where you want to be—with her. Slowly, you may realize that she will hold on to you, too. 8. Let Her Know

In any way that you can, let her know that you are here to stay. Sit down beside her if there is nothing she feels like doing. Stare out of the window with her if there is nothing else she wants to see. Rest your head on her shoulder as she tries to concentrate her thoughts on something far away. Smile at her when she looks at you with wonder. Smile at her whenever she looks at you. Bury your head in her chest when she lies down sluggishly on the bed. Let her know, in any way that you can that, at that very moment, there is nowhere else you’d rather be, and no one else you’d rather be with. To love a broken heart is like having your own heart being broken a little. To love someone who is broken is to break a little yourself. But if love meant no hurt, no scars and no pain; then what would the point of that love even be? Because there is a beauty about being broken and there is a beauty about loving someone who is broken. You both break a little inside; and that’s what makes you whole.
