As I’ve said before, men deeply desire to please their wives. But they sometimes get confused on how to do it. My wife’s contentment means the world to me. If she is unhappy about her life, it affects me. I can even begin to wonder if I’m the reason for her unhappy feelings. When shes happy and I can hear it in her voice, it makes me feel good as her husband. That means everything is cool. As I mentioned last time, the two most powerful tools a woman has to influence her man are respect and admiration. He will do most anything to get your genuine appreciation, respect, and pride. If you asked a group of men whether theyd rather live their lives being loved but disrespected, or being respected but unloved, most would choose the respected option. In the Bible, it says in Ephesians 5:33 (NLT), “Each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.” If a mans wife doesn believe in him or is continually dissatisfied, he will feel hopeless or unloved, so to speak. And if he doesn’t get the affirmation, support, and encouragement he needs at home, he’ll probably seek it elsewhere. It isn’t that he was looking for that support and attention, but to him, it felt so good when someone gave it to him. Respect means a great deal to men. Typically, most men respect their mother and that’s why that bond is so strong. For mothers tend to encourage and accept their sons. Think about the stories over the years when a man was in trouble but hung onto the belief that his mother still believed in him, no matter what. Respect goes the other way too. If a woman allows herself to be pushed around by her man, she runs the risk of him losing respect for her. A woman has to stand up for her rights and not allow someone to impose his will upon her. I respect my wife’s opinion because she holds her ground on the issues that are important to her and feels strongly about. I may not always like it, but I respect that about her. Finally, men need respect from their women, not because of our pride, but because secretly, most of us feel inadequate. Males have very fragile egos. Even the most competent and self-assured man will buckle under the idea that his wife doesn’t believe in him. The book of Proverbs says, “An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones.” (Proverbs 12:4 NKJV.) The saying:” Behind every good man is a wonderful woman,” is more than a catchy line; it’s reveals the truth that a couple is doing life the right way. The way you want to feel loved by your man is the same degree that your man wants to feel respected by you. Thus, discussing how your man can love you and how you can respect your man are good steps toward understanding and fulfilling each other’s needs.
